Thoughts for June
It snowed. It rained. The wind blew down trees. Floodwaters held a generous handful of communities within inches of total destruction. All in all, it was a typical spring in the northern Dakota Territory.
We canoed some Class II rapids when we ran a portion of the Pembina River at flood stage. We spent a week fishing in the Sawtooths of northeastern Minnesota, and I earned the respect of some old timers after a successful bushwhack in the Superior National Forest.
We went for a swim in ice-cold Lake Superior, and did some fly-fishing at the mouth of the Baptism River. We spent a weekend fishing a bountiful crappie hole in Crow Wing County. And, we canoed ~40 miles of the Little Missouri River, in the heart of North Dakota's Badlands.
The best part? Summer is just getting started...
